Have you ever set out to accomplish something, only to find that upon completion of the goal that it doesn’t bring about the elation you thought it would? Ever had an idea in your head of the areas you need to achieve in order to be considered successful, only to find that when you attain these things for yourself, it doesn’t feel as good on the inside as it looks on the outside?

“The first thing is awareness. And for me, awareness takes me very far. It doesn’t lead to paralysis. And so once I had the awareness, courage wasn’t that far behind, and the main thing that I knew at that moment was that I wanted to be and do things differently than I had. That was about the level of clarity I had, which can sound pretty small, but it was actually massive, and that’s why I was systematic. And I dialed down my practice and went on a sabbatical because that was doing something new.” – Alexandra Stockwell

Goals and desires are two very different things, and oftentimes they don’t work in harmony together. Learning to discern the difference will help you live a more fulfilling existence, and could potentially save you from going down the wrong path. The key to success in any area, it seems, is to know yourself wholly, and honor your wants and needs in any experience.

In my opinion, there’s no one better to speak on this than MD and Coach Alexandra Stockwell, whose energy and enthusiasm for life should be an inspiration to us all. Today, she’s fully expressed and in her element, but it wasn’t always this way. As you’ll find out in this episode, upon achieving what she thought were her main goals in life, Alexandra found she felt that something was missing, and so she set out on a journey deep within herself to find what she truly desired. This led her to a change in career that not only impacted her professional life, but her personal relationship with her husband, too.

In this delicious episode, we discuss how to recognize when something is not aligned, how to listen to the whisper of your intuition, and how to decide what you desire and say no to everything that isn’t that. To living life at full volume!

In this episode…

  • The moment Alexandra knew she was unfulfilled
  • Why success looks different to everyone
  • How we can use others as a mirror
  • The difference between desires and goals
  • How to honor your desires
  • What happens when you start to trust your intuition
  • How inner knowing led Alexandra to her true passion

Quotes:

“I consider that a matter of grace that I’m able to learn very deep lessons without a lot of drama around me. I took it in as though it was a very big event and I changed my life in response to that awareness.” – Alexandra Stockwell

“And I guess the thing that I would add is that mammals learn through imitation and we are mammals. And I think one of the biggest challenges – that isn’t true with becoming a great entrepreneur or a great basketball player or any of these other things – but when it comes to relationships, we have such a lack of role models. And so I’m really devoted being a role model.” – Alexandra Stockwell

“It’s such a reminder to really tune in to the energetics and what’s going on for you and, and to really, you know, trust that if something feels off, there’s something there to explore and to just be open to.” – Emily Williams

“I talk about the little whispers as well, because there was no rational reason for me to move to another country. […] It makes no sense when you think about it, but I just knew. And then obviously met my husband James a year later online. And, um, it’s so powerful and we have this internal GPS and yet, so many of us are not listening. We’re not paying attention or we’re ignoring and pushing it away.” – Emily Williams

FOUNDER & CEO

I started I Heart My Life from my kitchen table in a tiny London apartment in 2013.

After going through a 5-year quarter-life crisis, I discovered the world of personal development and the power of a gratitude journal and finally got clear on my true purpose in life: to help women fall in love with themselves and their lives. I Heart My Life has gone through many transformations over the years, but its mission has always remained the same: we exist to teach you how to create a life that you love.
