Recently a client asked me this question: “Should I just wait to send out this sales email announcing my program? I’m traveling a lot, and I’m not sure how much time I have to take discovery calls. Should I just wait a few weeks?”
My response: “I don’t wait for anything.”
Now obviously that’s not completely true, but when it comes to putting my work into the world, I don’t see any reason to wait…
I learned a few years ago that waiting is not only the fastest way to delay your dreams, but it’s also selfish.
People need what you have, Lovely.
And the truth is, I believe NOW is the best time to be a coach because your clients need your more than ever. Think about it like this, you have that CURE they’re looking for, and there are people out there searching for someone just like you RIGHT NOW.
(And there’s never going to be a perfect time to act anyway, so if you’re waiting for that, STOP.)
Recently, I was reading the book Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth and Impact the World Book by Peter Diamandis and Steven Kotler.
In it, the authors talk about Kodak and how it failed to anticipate what was coming in the photography market.
For those of us dreaming of running a business or actually doing it, they suggest learning from that mistake and recommend finding a niche that will still be relevant and make an impact for years to come. And then anticipate the twists and turns that that industry is bound to take.
My prediction about coaching is this, Lovely: People are only going to get increasingly unhappy, want more meaning in purpose in their lives, desire more freedom and connection, and be more and more open to support. People are calling out for this work, Lovely and more than ever, they’re willing to make an investment to get your help.
And the thing is, there’s literally never been an easier time to be a coach.
You don’t actually need tons of money under the mattress to start. You don’t need to quit your job tomorrow. You don’t need to have a certification. You don’t need tons of experience (you just have to be able to guide others through what you went through!). You don’t need to be a designer or tech savvy.
Do you hear what I’m saying, Lovely?
Now that’s not to say that you shouldn’t hone your craft and get support as a new coach — I learned how to coach by working with my own coaches and listening to group coaching calls. The same is possible for you…
But you have to start.
Because we both know that until you start, you’re not going to be able to have that money stashed under the mattress (because let’s be real, right now you’re just getting by), you’re not going to be able to leave your 9-5 job, you’re not going to gain more experience, you’re not going to have the impact you’re craving…
The longer you put off moving forward, the further down the line all of those dreams end up…!
