Many of us have been taught that we need to be hard on ourselves to make things happen. We entertain negative thoughts and believe that a “bullying” frame of mind will help us move forward and reach our goals.

I have to tell you, that’s one of the biggest myths of our generation! In reality, we need to be kind, patient and loving to ourselves if we want to get, well, anywhere. But don’t just take my word for it…

Last year, I stumbled upon a fascinating study by Dr. Masaru Emoto. Dr. Emoto tested focused intentions on frozen water molecules by labeling the dishes containing the water with either loving thoughts like “I love you” or negative thoughts like “You make me sick”. Stay with me…

Amazingly, Dr. Emoto found that the molecules with the kind words/thoughts attached to them had beautiful, symmetrical, complex snowflake-like molecular patterns with vibrant color tones. In contrast, water exposed to negative thoughts had incomplete, distorted, asymmetrical molecular patterns with dull colors. CRAZY!

Over the past year, I’ve thought about this research quite often, and it has made me question the pressure I put on myself and my relationship TO myself. (We are about 60% water after all, so it pertains!) I’ve worked at being kinder to myself, and it’s made a world of difference in every area of my life.

What about you – how often do you put yourself down at work or in your relationships? If you’re anything like me in the past, the answer is often. Do you hold onto negative thoughts in order to move forward or achieve a goal? Do you say things to yourself that you’d never in a million years say to your friends or family with the hopes that some “tough love” will make a difference in your life? I’m here to give you a reality check: loving yourself will help you reach your goals, not bullying.

So this week, your mission is to be kinder TO yourself and to think nicer thoughts ABOUT yourself! Maybe even try to have the same patience with yourself that you show to others. I know you can do it!

As always, I’d love to hear from you! Did this topic resonate with you? Is this something you struggle with? And if you really want to master this and change your life, just click here to book a complimentary one on one consultation!
